The natural beauty and rich heritage of New England await you. Spectacular autumn foliage is the backdrop for our journey from Boston, the birthplace of the nation, to the White Mountains of New Hampshire to Acadia national park, Maine's stunning coastal gem. Explore Boston's colonial past, experience the pristine beauty of the north woods and discover the majesty of Cadillac Mountain and the Atlantic coast of Maine.
Day 1 Arrive in Boston, meet your fellow travellers, enjoy our welcome, participate in our orientation and introductions. For dinner, sample one of Boston's world class restaurants. You'll have time to take in a Red Sox game or just relax.
Day 2 After a full breakfast, depart for a heritage tour of Boston. We will visit Beacon Hill, Fannuel Hall, Quincy Market, Paul Revere's House and Old North Church. In the afternoon, we'll take a cruise on Massachusetts Bay. Dinner is at a restaurant of your choice.
Day 3 After a full breakfast, we depart from Boston, following the route of Paul Revere's ride through Harvard Square to Lexington green and Old North Bridge, where the "shot heard 'round the world" was heard. From here we head northward to the White Mountains of New Hampshire. New England's foliage will dazzle you throughout our journey in the north country. We will end up at the foot of snow covered Mt. Washington, New England's tallest peak, in the heart of the Presidential Range. Dinner, naturalist seminar and overnight at one of the areas historic grand hotels
Day 4 After breakfast, we meander through Crawford Notch toward Maine, arriving at historic Camden, Maine in time for an afternoon schooner sailing adventure. Dinner, heritage seminar and overnight in Camden
Day 5 Following breakfast, we contiue our drive DownEast to Maine's spectacular Mt. Desert Island. We will arrive in time for a drive through Acadia National Park and sunset on the top of Cadillac Mountain. We will have dinner at one of Bar Harbor's outstanding restaurants.
Day 6 Today you will have some choices to make and can design a day to stasify your interests. Mt. Desert Island offers endless adventures from sea kayaking, to bicycling, to sailing, to hikes of varying levels of difficulty. Stroll along the shoreline or embark on a challenging climb. If you want you can climb aboard a lobster boat and try your hand as a lobsterman (or woman). You can go off on your own or you can stay with us for a day of exploring the island by coach. There is great antiquing and shopping. Before dinner, we will gather for a natural history orientation. Dinner will be at another great Bar Harbor restaurant.
Day 7 Whatever you didn't get to yesterday, you can try today! At the end of the day, meet up at the hotel, share your experiences and take part in a seminar on local legends and folklore. Dinner will be at another great Bar Harbor restaurant.
Day 8 We depart Bar Harbor and make our way back to Boston. We will arrive in Boston in time for you to catch a flight back home.
