11 Day Itinerary
Day 1 Depart USA
Day 2 Arrive Cairo. Upon arrival, we will transfer to our hotel and commence introductions and orientation. Time permiting, we will begin with a walking orientation of the Khan al Khalili Bazaar. Dinner will be at the hotel.
Day 3 Our first full day of discovery will start with a full breakfast (as always) at the hotel. We will visit the Egyptian Museum for an introduction to the artistic and historical legacy of ancient Egypt. Around lunch time, you can elect to take a falucca ride on the Nile (including lunch) or visit a nearby restaraunt on your own. Following lunch, we will resume our exploration of the Egyptian Museum. There will be some free time in the late afternoon. Dinner will be at the hotel.
Day 4 Following breakfast, we will embark on a full day excursion to Giza, where the Sphynx and the Great Pyramids are located, Saqqara (the Step Pyramid) and then on to Dahshur to view the impressive pyramids there (the Red and the Bent Pyramids). Dinner will be at the well known nearby restaurant "Falfala."
Day 5 Today we will explore Cairo's religious landmarks including the Mohammad Ali Mosque. The afternoon is free. In the evening, we will transfer to the train station to meet our overnight train to Luxor.
Day 6 Upon arrival in Luxor, we will embark on a full day exploration of Luxor's east bank sites, including the Luxor Temple and the Temple of Amon-Ra at Karnak. After checkng in to our hotel, there will be time for relaxation or a casual walk arond town. Dinner will be at the hotel.
Day 7 Following breakfast we will make our way by ferry across the Nile River to explore the west bank monuments including the Colossi of Memnon, the Valleys of the Kings and Queens, the Tombs of the Nobles and the Temple of Hatshepsut. For those who wish, there is enjoyable hiking through the mountains between some of the sites. Dinner will be at the hotel.
Day 8 We depart in the morning for Hurghada where we embark by ferry to Egypt's Sinai Peninsula. The hotel is located in the seaside village of Dahab, known as a hub for travellers and renowned for its atmosphere, shopping and for the many excursions that can be taken from here. These include scuba and snorkling trips, jeep and camel safaris. Dinner will be on your own.
Day 8 Free day in Dahab.
Day 9 We depart early from Dahab for St. Katherine's monastery deep in the mountains of Sinai. The journey brings us through some of Sinai's most spectacular desert ladnscapes and will will make side trips to the Nawamis (ancient buria lsites?) and ein Khudra. By the end of the day, we will be at the foot of Mt. Sinai and surounded by austere, 7,000 ft peaks. Dinner will be at the hotel.
Day 10 Today you can relax and casually explore the monastery or attempt to climb to the sumit of Mt. Sinai. After lunch, we will depart for Cairo as the journey draws near to its close..
